Record hours smarter with Ruud's Simplicate tool
At SST Software, we use various tools to ensure our projects run smoothly. For project management and budget control, we use Simplicate. It's an important system because it keeps us on top of our projects:
- Developers log their hours and submit weekly timesheets.
- Project managers approve these hours and monitor budgets.
- Our administration converts the approved hours into invoices and monitors the financial overview.
Simplicate is an indispensable link in our daily processes.
two systems, one frustration
Besides Simplicate, we also use JIRA to manage our development projects. Convenient, but it meant our developers had to log their hours in two different systems. And that occasionally caused frustration.
Simplicate does offer a browser plugin that helps track hours in both systems, but it had its limitations.
a smart home-grown solution
Ruud, one of our developers, had had enough. Instead of accepting the limitations, he took matters into his own hands. He developed a custom tool that not only simplifies the hours of typing between JIRA and Simplicate, but is also much faster and more user-friendly.
All the minor annoyances, like duplicate entries, have been resolved. The entire team now logs their hours using Ruud's tool, saving them a lot of time and frustration.
open source: sharing is multiplying
What makes this tool extra special: Ruud has made the code open-sourced via his GitHub account. This way, other teams or companies facing similar challenges can also benefit from his solution.
